Tell us about your experience of visiting someone in Wandsworth Prison

The Chief Inspector of Prisons is interested in your views about how Wandsworth Prison has supported you and your relationship with a prisoner in Wandsworth. The Wandsworth Prison Improvement Campaign are also going to put in views, so we need your help.


The Chief Inspector has said

‘If you have a family member or friend in prison, we would like to find out:

  • what the prison does to support your relationship with the person in prison

  • what your visits at the prison have been like

  • if you have used any family support, or had any involvement in family interventions.’


He wants views emailed to hmiprisons.enquiries@hmiprisons.gov.uk

And please can you copy what you send to us at

 

BUT at WPIC we want much more detail to help us in our campaigning work

 

1)     When you knew that your family member or friend was in Wandsworth did you look at the prison website and was it helpful?

2)     How long did it take for him to get a working pin and phone money so that he could phone you regularly?

3)     Did you manage to get any clothes, glasses, books into the prison that he had asked for? How long did he wait?

4)     Have you ever been worried enough to try to contact the prison and did anyone help you and him?

5)     Were staff helpful when you came on a visit - how were you treated?

6)     Was the visits hall clean and friendly, including the loos? Was there any food available?

7)     Have you been offered any financial help with the cost of visiting, or told that help was available?

8)     Have you had any help from the prison when you or your family needed extra support in visiting, due for example to disability or emotional or mental health problems with your family member or friend inside?

9)     Have you ever been offered a visit by video link, or told about them ? Did you try one and was it any good?

10)    Have you ever been invited to a family day and what was it like?
